Case of the Mondays
Possibly one of the best movie quotes comes from Office Space during a conversation between Peter Gibbons and his homely, eavesdropping neighbor, Lawrence:
Peter (to Lawrence): Let me ask you something. When you come in on Monday, and you’re not feelin’ real well, does anyone ever say to you, ‘Sounds like someone has a case of the Mondays’?
Lawrence: No. No, man. Shit, no, man. I believe you’d get your ass kicked sayin’ something like that, man.
I have to say that I’m glad in my job no one asks me if I have a case of the Mondays. Actually, I take that back. If Bug ever came up to me and in his 3-year-old voice asked “Mama? You got a caiz of the Muhn-aze?” that might be pretty entertaining.
Last night, I made a vow. Today, Monday, I would not poo poo the fact that it is the beginning of another work week. Instead, I wrote down a list of things to accomplish today. (Aside from writing this blog, none of them are completed, but hey, it was a valiant thought.) In addition, throughout the day, I have been thinking about all of the great things about today.
For instance, I drove by a gas station and saw that gas is down to $2.15. Puh-raise Jesus! It gets better: I had a gift card to Starbucks and was able to get my eggnog latte fix. Mmmmm.
What else? Hmmm…
Oh, I realized that I would much rather have my job than these:
Sewer inspector/cleaner
Nasty.
Bull semen collector
Ew.
Alligator farmer
Ouch.
*Shudders*
I would take my job any day over these occupations, thank you.
Next time I think I’m coming down with a case of the Mondays, I will be rereading this blog and thanking my heavenly stars that I don’t have to deal with anyone’s poop (with the exception of two small people…), assist a bull in getting himself off, or put myself in the way of an alligator’s razor sharp teeth.
Ya know, suddenly Monday doesn’t seem so bad after all!
I guess parenting doesn’t seem so bad compared to those jobs! Thanks for putting things in perspective.
I have a case of the Tuesdays. We were out of town & didn’t come home until late last night (Sage stayed with my mom so it was just Ryan & I). On our trip, we slept in, went out to eat at 7pm (SHOCK! I haven’t been to a restaurant that late in 3 years. I honestly asked if he thought they were still open!!!) So, yes, I sit here in my bathrobe at 9:30 on a Tuesday…I for sure have a case of the Tuesdays!
